Florida Quilt Network - Newsletter #8

June 12, 1999

Hello All,

You are probably wondering what has happened to FQN and me.  I could enumerate the projects I’m up to my eyeballs in, but that’s not what this newsletter is about, is it!  However, as you will read below, one of my current projects is the Orlando meeting of the state guild, Sunshine State Quilters Association.  My guild and three others are working on it…. it should be the quilting event of the summer!

Also, after the quilt show season ended in March, the news to report came to me much more slowly.  This would be a good time to start discussing upcoming guild programs and national teachers.  My guild, Central Florida Quilters Guild, plans to have Roberta Horton in September, Bethany Reynolds (Stack-n-Whack fame) in February, and Ricky Tims in October, 2000.  I know that Ricky is looking for more guilds to visit on that trip, so check out his website:  www.taqstudio.com.

Although I am no longer the program chair for my guild, my passion for communication between guilds and attraction to the value of sharing national teachers has not waned.  My guild saved lots of money recently by sharing Klaudeen Hansen with two other organizations.  This is something that wouldn’t have happened without FQN.  So I am proud of this effort.

*** It is possible for every guild in Florida to have great teachers visit, but it is up to you to make it so. ***

Here are some web sites you might enjoy:

Deanna Spignola has a great page of sewing and quilting links  www.spingola.com/ds/links.htm

Mary Jobe Mason sent in www.mccallsquilting.com  which has links to other quilting magazine sites.

PBS has been working on a documentary to capture the art and inspiration of quilting.  In August the program will be seen on PBS stations across the country.  To learn more, visit the “America Quilts” web site,  <                         www.pbs.org/americaquilts/>
