Florida Quilt Network - Newsletter #112

www.FloridaQuiltNetwork.com

October 2, 2007

Quilting Friends,

Some of you may have heard about the Orlando quilt show being canceled in 2008.   That is true.  Sad, but true.  We will very much miss displaying our quilts for you!  However, please understand that the Central Florida Quilters’ Guild presents the Orlando quilt show in the EVEN years.  The ODD years will still see a quilt show presented by Florida Cabin Fever Quilters Guild:

"It was brought to our attention that there is some confusion over whether or not Florida Cabin Fever Quilters will be having our show next year.  We are pleased to announce our show, “Quilt Fever 2009”, is scheduled as always for January 2009.  It will be on January 23rd and 24th at the Central Florida Fair Grounds. We look forward to seeing you all there."

                                    - Trish Bowman, Show Chair

You may remember that I’ve listed a couple of longarm machines for sale in the past.  Well, they were sold so quickly from those listings, that I’ve decided to include a regular Classified Section in this newsletter.  If you have something sewing or quilt related to sell, consider an advertisement in this newsletter.  There are over 1000 interested readers in Florida and beyond.  The charge is $50 for your ad, which will include two listings (two consecutive newsletters) for a single ad.  Please send your ad to ad@FloridaQuiltNetwork.com, and look for a reply from me with instructions for sending the payment.

As always, if you have email changes, let me know:subscribe@FloridaQuiltNetwork.com

RESEARCH ASSISTANCE REQUESTED

Teddy Pruett is gathering research and looking for quilts of the deep south, specifically quilts from Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, or West Virginia.  She is particularly interested in quilts with known provenance, especially if there are pictures of the maker and/or the maker's home, or if personal stories are known about the quiltmaker.  Beauty and perfection are fine but not necessary at all.  She is also - in fact, particularly - interested in country quilts and those made by women of little means who made the best of what they had.  The south was, as a rule, economically devastated from the 1860's to the 1950's, and it is okay if the quilts reflect that.  If you have a quilt that fits this description, Teddy would like to consider it for inclusion in her book to be published by Voyageur Press.  She is also looking for pictures of women quilting or piecing, and pictures of ceiling hung quilt frames.  Interesting tidbits of quilt-related oral history or favorite family stories concerning quilting are also welcome.  Please contact her through e-mail at aprayzer@hotmail.com, or telephone at 386-758-9457.  E-mail is preferred.
