Florida Quilt Network - Newsletter #114

December 2, 2007

Quilting Friends,

At the Thanksgiving table this year, I was trying valiantly to keep my 6 year old nephew at the table a few more moments.  I asked him if he knew why we were eating a big meal…what were we celebrating?  He did actually know it was Thanksgiving, so we went around the table telling him what we were thankful for.  Since everyone else was thankful for family and friends and good food, I decided to break with tradition and say that I was thankful for my sewing machine. Well its true, really!  Especially after camping for 6.5 months without one, I give my machine a hug every day.  I am speeding happily through 3 different quilts at the same time, and having a fabulous time, thankyouverymuch.  So, do you think my family realized they still come first?

You may remember that I’ve listed a couple of longarm machines for sale in the past.  Well, they were sold so quickly from those listings, that I’ve decided to include a regular Classified Section in this newsletter.  If you have something sewing or quilt related to sell, consider an advertisement in this newsletter.  There are over 1000 interested readers in Florida and beyond.  The charge is $50 for your ad, which will include two listings (two consecutive newsletters) for a single ad.  Please send your ad to ad@FloridaQuiltNetwork.com, and look for a reply from me with instructions for sending the payment.

As always, if you have email changes, let me know:subscribe@FloridaQuiltNetwork.com

Teddy Pruett is having a "very embarrassing moment" and is asking FQN members if they can help rectify her problem.  Her calendar is scribbled with what appears to be "F&S, Jan 23 & 24, 2009"  but she hasn't a clue what that means!!  If you or your group fit that description or date, can you please contact her at aprayzer@hotmail. com.

Also, the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum, in Golden Colorado, is featuring a solo exhibit of  seventeen of Teddy Pruett's quilts entitled "Second Hand Stories."  The exhibit runs from Oct 07 thru Feb 08.  www.rmqm.org

The Venice Area Quilters’ Guild is celebrating its 25th anniversary with Quilting By the Gulf XII, its prestigious judged show.  The event will be March 15, 2008 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and March 16 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Venice Community Center, 326 S. Nokomis Ave.

The show will feature more than 200 quilts—traditional to art, wearable art, and a Hoffman 2007 Anniversary Challenge group.  The event includes door prizes, a quilt appraiser, merchants’ mall, sale of used books and magazines, a giant boutique, and silent auction of small quilts.

A popular event is the turning of antique quilts.  Quilts stacked on a bed are turned, one by one, while a brief history of each one is explained.  Many people remember similar quilts in their families.

New for this show is a tearoom, where visitors may purchase an elegant snack or lunch.

Complete information, including directions for the show, is available at www.thevaqg.com
