Quilting Friends,

You may remember I wrote last month about my church’s Community Fest I’d be busy with in October.  It was successful, the weather was great, and people came in record numbers.  Our family decided that the following weekend would be good for a family get-away, so we drove over to Longboat Key and stayed at a beautiful spot on the beach:  some of you may remember Karen O’Dowd, past editor of Lady’s Circle Patchwork Quilts, quilt shop owner, quilt designer, teacher, etc.  Karen and Dick O’Dowd now manage a charming set of condos called La Playa.  It was a perfectly lazy weekend, though we did rouse ourselves for a game of beach bocce at one point.  I was so lazy, I didn’t even check out the four quilt shops close by.  Next time, for sure.  My son did lose his head tho.

If you’re a landscape art quilter, you just have to take a look at these pictures of fall in Vermont.  Every single one of them should inspire you to get busy:  http://tinyurl.com/57yt3g

Tip #11

What do you do with your leftover prescription drugs?  Throw them in the trash?  Down the drain?   These chemicals are making their ways into our fresh waterways, even our drinking water.  There are better choices:

·                  Starfish Project - takes donations of certain meds by mail and distributes them to people in need.

·                  Earth 911 - enter your zip and the word medication to find nearby drop sites for unused pills.

·                  SMARxT Disposal - disposal options for those who don't have a nearby drop-spot.

·                  Green Pharmacy Program - join its campaign to push for proper disposal facilities in your area.

·                  Drug Repository Programs - check with your local Department of Health or Board of Pharmacy.

·                  Pharmacies - some pharmacies (such as many Rite Aids) offer safe drug disposal programs; check with yours.

As always, if you have email changes, let me know:subscribe@FloridaQuiltNetwork.com
