Florida Quilt Network - Newsletter #131

Quilting Friends,

We’re heading into our hot, hot ‘indoor season’ in Florida, and none-too-soon for me.  I’m quilting up a storm lately, keeping up with our new Stash Busters Club at The Sewing Studio in Maitland.  I’m offering demos on two quilts a month (one to use scraps, one to use strings), plus a quick project.  Two hours of FREE fun…now that is the best deal in Central Florida!  Yep, we’re not charging for this great club, so mark your calendar now: fourth Saturday of each month, from 1-3pm.   Take a look at some of the quilts I’ve demo’d so far.

Green Tip #16

If you haven’t already, set up your computer to ‘sleep’ when you’re not using it.  The computer screen uses a lot of power, and its easy to conserve that power.

If you know you’re coming back in the next few hours, instead of turning it off and then back on again later, you can easily change the power options temporarily or permanently.  Here’s how: click on START, click on CONTROL PANEL, click on DISPLAY, click on SCREEN SAVER Tab, click on the POWER button at the bottom of the window.  Sometimes it takes a few minutes for the next window to come up.  Use the sliders to tell the system when to turn off the Monitor, Hard Disk, and Hibernate the system.  When you’ve made your changes, click on APPLY, and then back your way out.  All you have to do to ‘wake up” your computer, move the mouse!

As always, if you have email changes, let me know:subscribe@FloridaQuiltNetwork.com

QUILTERS TOUR OF NEW ZEALAND    12th - 25th October 2009

If you like good company and great times this is the vacation for you...   We have planned a quilt shop hop through New Zealand.   It will be springtime, the daffodils and blossoms will be blooming....    We will be traveling by road, ferry and train through both islands of New Zealand. Because we will be a small group we can set our own timetable and will be visiting quilt shops and arts and craft centres along the way.

It is a unique opportunity to be part of a group of like-minded women who love to quilt and shop.  Come with a group or by yourself, you will be well looked after.

Check out our website www.quilterskiwiescape.com and if you have any questions please contact us.

Dear Artist,

I am coordinating Art for Awareness, to raise money for breast cancer research.  The last two years' events were so successful, we're doing it again.  We would like artists to create artwork that will be exhibited at the event, then auctioned off to benefit  breast cancer research.  The artwork must incorporate bras, women, pink, ribbons, etc.  The event will be held in the summer of 2009.

I would like to invite you to participate in the event. Exhibited art should incorporate  bras, women, pink, ribbons, etc. Refer to the artist agreement for display restrictionsEmail for the Artist’s Agreement.   Please contact me with any questions you have at:
    407/ 491-6166 or e-mail- ehiemenz@gmail.com

Thanks so much for all your help.  I look forward to seeing your artwork
