Florida Quilt Network - Newsletter #132

June 3, 2009

Quilting Friends,

Its been such a busy May (and I didn’t even have any graduations!), that I have nothing to write here but this…sigh, I’m ready for a good long rest.  I picked up some books at the library today that I’ve already read, but they were so good I’m gonna read them again…how’s that for lazy?  I did finish a few recently from Steinbeck and also Michener’s autobiography.   Now its time for some summer fluff.

Green Tip #17

No need to toss any size scrap of batting, no matter how small.  They make great pillow stuffing.  You can make a pillow any custom size, just sew two pieces of batting together, turn it right side out, and stuff it with your batting scraps.  If its too lumpy for your taste, sew another pillow casing out batting slightly bigger than the first, and stuff the first pillow into the second pillow.   This tip is great for creating the odd sized pillow.  Now any two blocks can be made into a pillow!

As always, if you have email changes, let me know:subscribe@FloridaQuiltNetwork.com

The Quilter's Hall of Fame in Marion, Indiana, recently offered a unique national fund raising challenge to quilters.  Very short stories - less than one thousand words -  were solicited and have been made into an e-book for your enjoyment.  Reading and downloading are free, the book totals 52 pages.  Two of the accepted stories are by Florida's own Teddy Pruett.  Just click onto

The new Florida Quilt Project!

How many Florida quilts can we record in 2 years?
Quilt Discovery Days are back in action as part of the new Florida Quilt Project, which will finally have our records entered into the Quilt Index national database!
If your group already has quilt documentation records, they can be added to this project.
If you have not hosted a Quilt Discovery Day for your area, now is the time to start planning! Have more than one! Get some funding from SSQA ( http://www.ssqa.org/grants.htm ).
This Project will run for 2 years. It includes any quilt currently in Florida (regardless of where it was made), of any age (though getting the info on antique quilts is especially important before it is lost). If you know of a private or museum collection, we want to record those, too!
The 2 years will be over before you know it....don't miss out!
