Quilting Friends,

Well, here we are, smack dab in the middle of High Quilt Show Season in Florida.  If you don’t get to at least one show in the next few months, well, I’m not sure about you, is all I can say, LOL. Take a look below for some great looking events, including a cruise, a shop hop, quilt exhibits, free lectures, shows, inexpensive classes, luncheons, teas, retreats….whew.  Really.  All happening in this great, funky state of Florida.

So, some of you may be familiar with the John Flynn method of diagonally piecing quilt backings.  That’s where you change a long rectangle of backing fabric to a shorter, fatter rectangle to fit the size of the quilt top.  If you’ve attempted this method, you may have looked at the formula and wondered if your high school math was going to come back (or maybe you’d need to call in your kids/grandkids for a consult?).  Well, I found a handy website that does the calculation for you:   http://www.multi-patch.com/html/diagonal_backing_calculator.php .  You plug in the known measurements and the website will calculate how long your backing fabric must be to work.  Oh yes.  Now use that extra time for good, will ya?

I want to call your attention to a change to a long-standing quilt show.  Lake County Quilt Guild puts on a fabulous quilt show EVERY year in Mount Dora.  Usually the show is Thursday and Friday, but in 2014 they are moving it to FRIDAY and SATURDAY.  If you come on Thursday, you will receive a $1 coupon off the price of admission for Friday.  So don’t come on Thursday, LOL.  See you there!

Happy Quilting,   Mary-Jeanine
PS: I love to hear from you, so drop me a line sometime!

QUILTING CRUISE OUT OF FT. LAUDERDALE

Booking Deadline For The Round Bobbin
Sew Fun Cruise has been extended to February 10, 2014

Please call Bonnie at 800-784-4480 before February 10
to book your cruise with us March 30 - April 6, 2014

Do you like to make quilts?
Do you enjoy being with other quilters?
Is it fun to take quilting classes?
How about some new sewing techniques?
Now you can take a cruise and take quilting classes from Kaye Wood and Veronica Cox and sewing classes from Emma Seabrooke and Mary Carollo during an 8 day fun-filled cruise to the Eastern Caribbean.
Kaye loves to teach quilting classes and loves to cruise. To date, she has taken quilters on 19 cruises to the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Alaska, Mexico and New Zealand.
Just what is a sewing and quilting cruise? We are just a small group aboard a big ship. While at sea, we have sit-and-sew classes, lectures, demonstrations, show & tell, sharing. Sewing machines will be provided by Janome America and Citrus Sew & Vac. Non-sewing people have all of the ship's programs, shopping, entertainment and special events. So if you bring your spouse, family members or friends, there will be plenty for them to do while you sew & quilt.
When in port, there are all of the usual tourist things to do. And all of the supplies for classes are furnished—Janome sewing machines, rulers, rotary cutters, mats, irons, fabric, etc. So you bring no sewing supplies.
So come on board on the Round Bobbin Sew Fun Cruise to the Eastern Caribbean.
We will leave Ft. Lauderdale on March 30, 2014 for 7 nights of fun and sun on Celebrity's new ship, Silhouette. Our ports of call will be St. Maarten, St. Kitts and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Just call Bonnie at Cruise One 800-784-4480 and you can be part of this fun adventure.

QUILT FESTIVAL IN TRENTON

Trenton’s Seventh Annual Suwannee Valley Quilt Festival

March 15, 2014, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Trenton, Florida – Just seven weeks away, the seventh annual Trenton’s Suwannee Valley quilt Festival, Florida’s only outdoor quilt show, will be held Saturday, March 15, 2014, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the picturesque town of Trenton, Florida. The Festival was initiated in 2008 by Suwannee Valley Quilt Shoppe owner Stephanie Metts, who was inspired by the now iconic Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show in Sisters, Oregon. Located in north central Florida just 20 miles west of Gainesville, Trenton will be ablaze with quilts flying from shops, business and government buildings up and down Main Street and beyond.

Every shop and business in Trenton will sport quilts, host quilting demonstrations, and  live music will fill the air. Up and down Main Street, an array of vendors will offer collectibles and antiques; artisans and old-time crafters will show their wares; antique cars and tractors will be on display; and the smells of great food from vendors and local eateries will temp festival-goers. Florida’s first Barn Quilt Blocks, part of the American Quilt Trail movement, also will be on display, and their stories told.

Quilt guilds, sewing groups, artisans of many stripes from throughout Florida come to support the show every year. Trenton businesses and civic organizations lay out the welcome mat to thousands of visitors who come from hundreds of miles away for the colorful, inspiring, and ever-growing event.

The annual event is sponsored by the City of Trenton, the Gilchrist County Commission, Pure Water Wilderness, the Suwannee Valley Quilt Shoppe, plus a number of businesses and individuals in the tri-county area.

For more information about the festival, visit the website, http://www.TrentonQuiltFestival.com, or contact the Suwannee Valley Quilt Shoppe, (352) 463-3842.
