Happy Fourth of July!
And greetings from Colorado. Thanks to a decent wi-fi connection at the Boulder Public Library, I can pull this newsletter together for you. If it makes you feel any better, its hot as blazes here too. Of course it gets down to the low 60’s at night, but that’s what quilts are for, right?
Meanwhile, back in Florida, we have the Row-by-Row Experience and the state-wide shop-hop. No time to waste! (The Row-by-Row Experience is actually nation-wide. Every shop I visit (20 so far!), is busily cutting kits for their store's unique row pattern; its really fun to see what they come up with).

Explore using fabric as an art medium in two workshops by artist
Karol Kusmaul, who layers textiles and combines prints and textures to create complex images in cloth.
· Friday 7/24-Be Still, My Heart (Art Quilt Still Life)
Layout a still life image, using light, medium and dark prints of only two colors. Critique and discussion of composition, shading forms, color and depth.
· Saturday 7/25-Face Forward (Art Quilt Portraits)
Layout a background and portrait, using (and sharing) recycled fabrics. Critique and discussion of facial features, proportions, and light and shadow.

QUILT SHOW IN DeFUNIAK SPRINGS
The Chautauqua Quilters Guild, Inc. along with The Emerald Coast Modern Quilt Guild will hold a quilt show, “Quilting with the Stars”, on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 12 & 13, 2016. This will be held at the DeFuniak Springs Community Center, 361 N. 10th Street, DeFuniak Springs, FL 32433. Show hours are 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. each day. Admission is $6.00 each. Children 12 years old and under are admitted for free. The show will include vendors, door prizes, guild boutiques, demos, free mini-classes, along with many beautiful quilts to view. QUILT SHOW IN PUNTA GORDA
The 11th Biennial Quilt Festival, “Gathering of Quilts” will be held at the Charlotte Harbor Event & Conference Center,75 Taylor Road, Punta Gorda, Florida on February 19 – 20, 2016, from 9 AM to 4PM. The Judged Quilt is presented by the Disconnected Piecers Quilt Guild of Port Charlotte, FL and will feature over 150 quilts. It will also include a Quilters Boutique, Merchant Mall, Quilters Auction, Special Exhibits, and Demonstrations, and Opportunity Quilt, “Blue FanTasic”. Free parking and Buses Welcome.

NEWS FROM MANCUSO
We are currently accepting entries for three competitions: World Quilt Competition (at the World Quilt Show – New England), Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza and Pacific International Quilt Festival.
Printable entry forms and links to the online entry forms can all be accessed from quiltfest.com by clicking on each show’s name.
The 19th World Quilt Competition does not have a theme. We are accepting entries until July 13 (postmark and online entry deadline).
The theme for the Pennsylvania competition is Ready … Set … Quilt! “Creating a new quilt takes lots of planning from designing to selecting fabrics to ... How do you get yourself to the starting line? What is your process?” The entry deadline is August 17.
The Pacific Int’l’s quilt competition theme is On Pins & Needles. “How do you feel while designing and working on a new quilt? Are you on pins & needles as you wait to see what emerges from your stash of fabrics and threads?” We also have a ‘new for 2015’ Modern Quilt category in the competition with the following information: *Modern Quilt Theme Interpretation: Mid-Century Mod emphasizes the look and feel of mid-20th century design. Artists are asked to draw inspiration from this period, reflecting their own exposures or from the work of artists such as Joan Miro, Piet Mondrian, Victor Vasarely, Frank Stella, etc. The Pacific show also has a wearable art competition for full ensembles and vest, jackets or coats. The entry deadline is September 1.
