Florida Quilt Network - Newsletter #206

Quilting Friends,
Have you visited the LongArm page of the website lately?  I need a little help:  I’m trying to link up the different counties on the left side of the page.  If you are a LongArmer or a LongArm customer, take a look please and let me know if I need to link up more counties that are close to your county.

Another page to look at is my Links page.  I’ve cleaned it up and added a new section of Quilt Retreat Venues.  Feel free to look at the page and suggest more quilting related links to beef up the page.  If your suggested link is already on the Shops or Guild or LongArm page, please don’t ask me to double list on the Links page.

And speaking of Quilt Retreat Venues,  I’ve heard from Jamie Starbuck Plant, who has opened a new retreat center in NC.  Sounds like fun!  Who wants to invite me to their next retreat?

Hello—I have been a long-time Florida quilter with past memberships in the All Stars and First Coast Quilters Guilds in Jacksonville, FL. I currently live in Franklin, NC and this year opened Ridgetop Quilters Retreat. Today, a group of six quilters from Jacksonville’s Friendship Guild are happily sewing away in our studio. They’ve been here since Sunday and are leaving tomorrow.

Next week, another group from Jacksonville is coming. Florida is one of my target markets. Ridgetop is a 4,000-square-foot new lodge that sleeps 10. We have averaged 6-8 quilters this first season and each has paid only $50 per night. (The house is $300 per night. So with six to 10 quilters the cost is $50 per quilter per night. Fewer than six quilters would pay a bit more each).

Franklin boasts beautiful scenery and two great quilt shops. Quilters from the John C. Campbell School come all the way to Franklin to shop in our stores, which give demos and discounts to our guests.

To get a complete, organized, hotlinked listing of all the Florida upcoming shows, retreats, workshops, shop hops, exhibits, etc, please visit the Calendar
Happy Quilting,   Mary-Jeanine
PS: I love to hear from you, so drop me a line sometime!

FIBER ART WORKSHOPS IN LAKE CITY

Vikki Pignatelli, Lecturer, Teacher, Author

Fabric Art Shop Welcomes Vikki with specially created classes for our shop.

January 29-31, 2016
Lunch buffet served all 3 days & included in class fee.
2 day class $240
1 day class $120

Class size is limited to give you comfortable workspaces for making your creations. Please note that these classes are extensive to provide you everything you need to complete full projects. Supplies lists to be provided prior to classes.

Class: A Promise Of Spring
All skill levels First 2 days
In this workshop students use a melody of Vikki's innovative techniques to recreate a detail of her quilt, Promise of Spring. Students will use a complimentary pattern to make a pond water ring using Vikki's basic curves construction technique, then learn her easy improvisational methods to complete the background around and above the water ring. Once the back-ground is stitched, students will use the fabric manipulation techniques to create a textured hanging branch with three-dimensional willow leaves. Students will learn to finish their project with Vikki's whole-cloth facing.

Class: Dimensional Moss and Flowers
All skill levels Last 1 day
This class is inspired by Vikki's quilt, Rocky Mountain Wildflowers. Students, let your creativity soar as you make a three-dimensional flower using Vikki's "partial facing" fabric manipulation technique. You will learn fun "scrunching" techniques to add texture to a whole-cloth background, then position the flower petals on the cloth.
You'll enhance your project with a realistic moss made from cheesecloth and wool roving you create on a felting machine and finish your flower with a felted center made with sheer organza and roving.

Reservations with payment only at FABRIC ART SHOP 877-755-0179 or 386-755-0179
