Florida Quilt Network - Newsletter #222

Quilting Friends,

[click to enlarge] I got a chance to work with some beautiful Marcia Derse fabrics to make this fun quilt.  The pattern is Craftsman by Amy Smart.  It was a challenge to find matching quilting threads in my stash for each rectangle. I did get a little fancy pants with the border; the pattern has a non-pieced border.

Well the quilt show season is winding down for us, but it looks like there are plenty of quilt-related activities happening in the next few months.  Also, if you’re in the market for a new-to-you machine or quilting frame, look in the section below for some great deals.

If you’re a fairly new reader of this newsletter, you may not know that the Calendar page on the website is a quick way to view upcoming events all over the state.  Give it a look-see.
Happy Quilting,
      Mary-Jeanine
PS: I love to hear from you, so drop me a line sometime!

QUILTFEST IN JACKSONVILLE

QuiltFest 2017 is coming !
September 21, 22, 23
Prime Osborn Convention Center
Jacksonville, FL

And Registration is now open!

Our Registration Form is up on the website, just waiting for you to download it and send it in.  We'd love to have your new, beautiful quilts hanging in our show again this year.

To access the Registration Form, please go to quiltfestjax.com.  At the upper right corner, find the Menu bar (3 horizontal lines).  Click that, then scroll to Registration Form.  Click "here" to access the pdf form.  Print it out; fill it out; send it in.  The deadline is July 25, 2017.

There are a couple of changes this year that I want you to be aware of.  First, we have a new category:  Innovative Quilts.  We've combined the Art Quilts into one category instead of two (Large and Small) and added this new category.  To be an Art Quilt, the design must be original--your design, your photo, your concept.  In the Innovative Category, you may use a commercial pattern or other non-original concept which you have enhanced to make a unique design.  For example, you may use someone else's photo; you may use a commercial pattern but paint instead of piece; you may use any design that is not original and enhance it so that it is substantially different from the original.  Be sure to read the definition of the category, and if you have any questions you can contact me by phone or email as shown on the Registration Form.

Another change this year is in the packaging of your quilt.  If you fold your quilt, please be sure the bag is of sufficient size that the quilt fits easily.  If you roll your quilts, please be aware that we can now accept only poles that are no longer than 36", and the pole must be flexible.  Pool noodles work well if you want to roll your quilt.  In addition, the pole can extend no farther than 2" on either end of the quilt.

If you are shipping your quilt, we would really appreciate a pre-paid return shipping label.

All quilts, except those of the Young Quiltmakers, will be judged before the show.  During judging, scribes write down the judge's comments so that you may receive feedback on your entry.  Please pick up your comments during the show at the QuiltFest Table; if your quilt is being shipped back to you, the comments will be included with your quilt.

As a reminder, Challenge quilts and Young Quiltmaker quilts are exempt from the entry fee, but you still must send in your Registration Form.

Thank you, everyone, and please enter your quilts this year into QuiltFest 2017.  It will be a beautiful show.
