Quilting Friends,

The Venice Area Quilters Guild is selling their PVC quilt show display piping and stands.  There is enough to put up a display 240 feet long (ours was 80 feet x three rows) set up in 10 x 10 bays.  $400 takes all.   If interested email treasurer@vaqg.org or call Dawn Moore at 941-408-9572.

Oh, and Sew Central in Merritt Island is moving—to Nebraska!  That of course means that they are selling everything in the shop so they don’t have to move it!  They will remain open until the beginning of March unless everything is sold and through February they will continue to have they classes.  Contact Ellen Patton @ Sew Central 321-338-2959

Another quick announcment of note: A Quilt Exhibit in Eustis for the month of January. Click here for more info.

If you’re a fairly new reader of this newsletter, you may not know that the Calendar page on the website is a quick way to view upcoming events all over the state.  Give it a look-see.
Happy Quilting,
      Mary-Jeanine

PS: I’d love to hear from you, so drop me a line sometime.

QUILT EXHIBIT IN EUSTIS

WE GO TO PIECES: 150 Years of Pieced Quilts
January 5 –February 3, 2018
Opening reception, Friday, Jan. 5, 6-8pm

Eustis FL – Opening on January 5, 2018, the Lake Eustis Museum of Art presents an outstanding new exhibition, WE GO TO PIECES: 150 Years of Pieced Quiltsfrom the collection of Judy Grow, quilter, lecturer, founder and leader of the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Study Group, 2002-2015, and author of 2 books on early American needlework.
Ms. Grow, guest curator of this exhibition, characterizes the selection:
Beginning in the 1830s middle-class American women no longer had to produce the essential clothing that their families needed for daily life.  They began buying affordable American-made and printed cotton fabrics and began sewing patchwork quilts as a creative opportunity that also taught neatness, patience and repetition.  This exhibition presents a sampling of pieced quilts, ranging from one signed and dated 1843 through to the first half of the 20th century.
Ms. Grow will be conducting tours of the exhibition on Saturdays during its time at LEMA. Scheduled for 2pm on January 6, 13, and 20, the brief tours will include background on the history of needlework and quilting from the curator’s extensive background.
LEMA director Richard Colvin says of the exhibition, “this collection is first-rate. When I first saw it, I was delighted to explore bringing such a great group of historic textiles to our audience in Lake County. If you are a quilter, or just an appreciator of the legacy of textile art, this is not to be missed.”
The exhibition continues through February 3, 2018. Call 352.483.2900 for more information.
