Quilting Friends,

[click to enlarge] Here’s one of my latest finishes: Kira from GE Designs.  It was fun using up some stash, especially the Australian prints for the border.  I’ll be teaching this quilt in September at The Sewing Studio in Maitland.

Hubby and I are headed out for another summer adventure (read: escape the heat), this time to explore the Canadian Rockies.  If you have favorite spots in Alberta/BC, please send them on!

If you’re a fairly new reader of this newsletter, you may not know that the Calendar page on the website is a quick way to view upcoming events all over the state.  Give it a look-see.

Happy Quilting,
      Mary-Jeanine
PS: I’d love to hear from you, so drop me a line sometime.

While the competition is going on Quilt A Bit quilt shop is bringing their QUILT SHOP to our site so everyone can shop to their hearts content while the teams race on to complete a quilt top.

What a great way to spend the afternoon. Being up front watching and cheering (or jeering) the teams as they race to complete a quilt top, enjoying snacks and beverages, and HOURS of fabric shopping.

CRAZY QUILT BLOCK WORKSHOP IN ORMOND BEACH

UPDATED VENUE...PLEASE NOTE..............

Racing Fingers Quilt Guild [RFQG] is sponsoring “Creating a Crazy Quilt Block” workshop on Monday, June 17, at 6:30pm at the the Aberdeen Club House, 50 Allwood Green Boulevard, Ormond Beach, Florida  Admission is free and open to the public.
Crazy quilts were inspired by the asymmetrical and “crazed” or broken designs in the Japanese Exhibit of the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial Exposition, which was a huge event in Victorian society.  Initial crazy quilts were made from velvets, satins and silk brocades, meticulously planned and put together like jigsaw puzzles.  They were then covered with hand embroidery and served as decorations in lavish Victorian sitting rooms. Later crazy quilts were functional and made from cotton fabrics sans embroidery.  The fad faded around 1910.

On June 17, Claire Sadowniczak will be presenting a more modern approach to creating a crazy quilt block utilizing commercial trim and a simple method similar to “log cabin”.  Written directions including photographs/diagrams will be distributed free of charge.  If you wish to participate, please bring the following with you: hand sewing implements or sewing machine, straight edge, fabric markers, scraps of fabric and commercial trims, and a piece of muslin the size and shape of your desired quilt block including seam allowances.
Claire is a resident of Ormond Beach, a member of RFQG, and a retired GE Aerospace Program Manager with a BS in math, BS in computer science and double MBA in management and computer science.  In addition, she has sold her original oil paintings and bean bags, tutored math/computer science/chemistry/biology/physics for Penn State, and worked as a private seamstress and aerospace software engineer.
RFQG meets the third Monday of every month at 6:30PM at the Ormond Beach Presbyterian Church, 105 Amsden Road, for a program and business meeting; and the second Thursday of each month in room 4 of the Ormond Beach Library at 9:30AM for help with quilting.  All quilters and would-be quilters are welcome.
