Florida Quilt Network - Newsletter #259

www.FloridaQuiltNetwork.com

July 5, 2020

Quilting Friends,

Another month got by us…feels like a year, feels like a day.  Am I right?  A little bit of quilting news to bring your way … below, after the calendar.

For the past 5 years, hubby and I have managed to escape the heat of the summer and head to points north with our little camper. Last year it was the Canadian Rockies, and as the images come up on my Facebook Memories, I can sink into the recollection of chilly evenings by a fire and sweaters in the rmorning.  This year? Baby, it is HOT out there!!  Yet another reason to sew all day, once I’ve returned from my morning walk.

I’ve heard from many guilds who are trying to keep spirits up and that wonderful guild culture alive with virtual meetings.  I’ve had some experience working with “non-techies” and Zoom.  At church, we’re currently running a weekly bible study program with about 70 people.  Before this, many had not tried Zoom and now they are comfortable with it, after just a few weeks.  So if you’re scared to try, please don’t be.  I bet you’ve got someone in your life who can help you download the zoom software and get started.  More and more this is where we’re headed, and won’t it be nice to be a part of it??

Here’s a question from Chris, president of the Country Star Quilt Guild:

Do you have any information on how Quilt Guilds get liability insurance?  Is there perhaps a group where our Guild could fall under an umbrella….since we only meet once a month, and as of yet have not done a show, getting expensive insurance is not something we can jump into unless we absolutely need it…our Guild is a non-profit and registered as such with the state.   Thanks for your help. My email is sandystream@outlook.com

If you’re a fairly new reader of this newsletter, you may not know that the Calendar page on the website is a quick way to view upcoming events all over the state.  Give it a look-see.

Happy Quilting,

      Mary-Jeanine

PS: I’d love to hear from you, so drop me a line sometime.
