Quilting Friends,

A few months ago I made a fun Lori Holt scrappy quilt so now, what to do with the leftovers?

This little number, which is from Trash2Treasure by Gyleen Fitzgerald.  I’ve always loved pineapple quilts, this wasn’t the first and it won’t be the last. But the ruler that goes with the book helped tremendously!

Aaaah, isn’t it nice to see all those wonderful quilt shows and events populating our calendar again?  I’m SEW looking forward to visiting some new (for me) shows this season.  And speaking of anticipation…Rachaeldaisy is coming to Florida…join me for a class or two in Jupiter!

Have you heard of the first ever All Florida Shop Hop?  Very exciting!  Dates are March 1- April 30.  60 shops, exclusive fabric, lots or prizes, and the passport is a beautiful full-color magazine with 6 patterns included.  Be sure to pick up the magazine at your favorite Florida quilt shop.

You may not know that the Calendar page on the website is a quick way to view upcoming events all over the state.  Give it a look-see.

Happy Quilting,

      Mary-Jeanine

PS: I’d love to hear from you, so drop me a line sometime.

FOR SALE Pfaff Expression 710 sewing machine and new table

This machine has about an hour or so of sewing time logged onto it. There is also a portable, folding sewing machine table that has never been taken out of the box. Both were purchased at Don’s Sewing Machines in Rockledge, FL and are currently in St. Cloud, FL.

Recently I spoke to someone at Don’s Sewing Machines who told me the machine and table would retail for about $4,000. The MSRP on the machine alone is $2,799. We are lowering the price to $2200 for both the machine and the table…an awesome deal! I have attached pictures of the actual machine and the box that the table is in.

Please call Rick Heuser at 407-957-5417 for more information or to make arrangements to see the machine in person!

On View: January 27—April 29, 2023

Location: Hannibal Square Heritage Center | Visiting Exhibition Gallery

642 W New England Ave. | Winter Park, FL 32789

About the Story Quilters

The Hannibal Square Story Quilters quilt group is dedicated to supporting all our quilt artists in a creative community. We share techniques, equipment and supplies to make meaningful art while supporting each other in all aspects of our lives. We listen to each other’s stories and work together to preserve our cultural heritage. Our informal motto is “DIYWH” or “Do it yourself with help,” encouraging everyone to try different quilting techniques apart from the workshop model. We learn from each other, have fun and enjoy life.

The members will collaboratively curate the exhibition, as each quilter has her unique story to tell. Exhibit themes include artist reflections on the Black experience, spirituality, justice, femininity, family and nature. Artists will reflect on their works with the public in celebration of Black History Month.

QUILT SHOW IN ORLANDO

Our church, First United Church of Christ, Orlando is having a quilt show on Saturday, March 25, 2023 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Our show is probably a little different in that it is not a judged show.  We display lots of older quilts (more than 50 years old) that were done by our mothers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers.  Additionally, our church was gifted over 40 quilts by a lady and her mother. They are a going to be sold at the show. Some are full-size, some are wall-hangings and some are small.  These are unique as they were all hand-quilted.  Her mother lived in Germany and so many were completed with fabric not found in the US.

Additionally, we will have a quilt raffle, basket raffle, and other merchandise at the show.

We will also be having a silent auction for an antique sewing machine and cabinet and an old sewing cabinet. Details to be posted on our website

The church website is http://www.firstuccorlando.org  If you want to see photos from our 2nd quilt show that we hosted in 2019.  We are displaying different quilts at this show.  It is also on our Facebook page.

CALL FOR QUILTS

If you are familiar with Tunnel 2 Towers, you are probably aware that the organization is building a complete village in Land O Lakes, Fl for wounded veterans, first responders, and gold star families. The land was donated by the Merch Foundation and the first home has been dedicated to a young woman and her two children.

This village will contain about 100 homes that will be completely mortgage free for the people who work so tirelessly for our safety and freedom. When I learned of this village about a year ago, I contacted Frank Siller, CEO of T2T and offered to arrange for one quilt to be made for each home. When Frank agreed this would be a good idea, I began trying to contact as many quilters as possible to make this happen. To date, we have about 60 quilts pieced, quilted, secured and ready to be delivered as each home is dedicated.

The first recipient, Danielle, received a beautiful Nebula quilt that was given from the heart of one quilter. We are seeking more quilts and quilters who would like to help in this program. You may reach me at Jerry@quiltersqtrs.com or (913) 683-3324. If you wish to participate, we welcome you with open arms. I can arrange to have the quilts picked up. I should say that there are no restrictions on these quilts except please either lap/wheelchair size or larger. You do not have to provide something hard, just something from your heart.

At present the quilts are being stored in my home in Lakewood Ranch, Fl, but T2T plans to have a climate-controlled storage facility in the Tampa area soon.

I welcome any questions you may have. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for any and all help you wish to provide.

Important Announcement:

Farewell Gold Coast Quilter’s Guild! As of December 31, 2022  Gold Coast Quilter’s Guild has dissolved!

The pandemic had a crushing effect on our membership. I am so very sad to have to say goodbye to our original Boca quilting guild! After 38 years as an evening quilting guild, we have many aging members who can’t drive at night. We all have been blessed with many friendships that have been formed and will endure.

Thank you for visiting our webpage (www.gcqg.org) over the years. It will be unavailable after Jan 12, 2023.

Sincerely, Marlys Cordes, President

Please be advised that The Quilt Place in Orlando is for sale.  It has been a wonderful experience, but it is now time to retire.  I have been fortunate to be able to do what I love every day for the last 23 years.  My customers and friends are what I will miss the most.  If you or anyone you know, is interested in owning a quilt shop in Orlando, please give me a call at 321-223-9969.  Rest assured that until the shop is sold, it will be business as usual.  We have shop hops planned, orders are being processed, and fun sales are in the works.  Thank you for your support over the years.

                                                Sincerely

                                                 Teresa Bringardner
