Florida Quilt Network - Newsletter #36

January 18, 2001

Quilting Friends,

--  Please forgive my error in the last newsletter.  We have (at least!) two talented Carols in Florida, Carol Henry who lives Ocala <chenry@atlantic.net> and Carol Meyer who lives in New Mexico and also Florida <redhousenm@yahoo.com>.  I incorrectly wrote that Carol Henry would not be teaching in 2001, that whole statement should have been attributed to Carol Meyer.  Here is the corrected text, and I apologize for any misunderstandings to both Carols!

I am taking next year (2001) off from teaching.  I had been very ill in late 1999 and so much of my work fell behind. I am trying to catch up this year and in 2001. I am now scheduling for 2002. If any groups are interested in Classes/ Programs for 2002 my email address is <redhousenm@yahoo.com>.

---  I have reached a great milestone, I just added my 500th reader!  I’m glad so many quilters are able to communicate via FQN.

--- Since this is a shorter newsletter than usual, I thought I’d recap all the quilt shows happening this month.  Look for them at the end of the newsletter.

--- Here are some websites of interest:

www.dianephalen.com - download your FREE screen saver with her beautiful art.

http://members.aol.com/anotherpat/flquilts.html - Pat has kindly put all the information from my last newsletter on her Florida Quilts! Website, so if you lose this email, you can bookmark her website and keep up with everything.  (Kinda takes the pressure off me to finish my website…I’d rather be quilting!!)

The Quilters' Workshop of Tampa Bay announces its quilt show, "2001: A Tampa Quilt Odyssey," February 23 and 24, 2001, at the newly renovated A La Carte Event Pavilion in Tampa, Florida.  Over 180 quilts, showcasing a variety of techniques including hand and machine quilting, will be on display.

Also on display will be special traveling collections from Hoffman Fabrics and Sulky of America, one-woman shows by Florida quilters June Colburn and Pauline Salzman, as well as the Quilters' Workshop Challenge Quilts. Both a silent and a live auction of mini quilts are planned with proceeds from the auctions benefiting the Shriners' Hospital Patient Transportation Fund.  Also at the show will be a Quilter's Mall, featuring vendors presenting the latest in machines, fabrics, patterns and notions; a wearable art fashion show; demonstrations; Teddy Pruett, a certified quilt appraiser; door prizes; an opportunity quilt made by the Quilters' Workshop (drawing to be held Saturday at 3:45 p.m., tickets will be available at the show); and the Quilters' Workshop Boutique where shoppers can find the perfect hand-crafted item to brighten their spring or to fill an Easter basket.  A light lunch and refreshments will be available for purchase on site.

The show will be held Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., February 23 and 24 at A La Carte Event Pavilion (formerly Egypt Shrine Temple), 4050 Dana Shores Drive, Tampa, Florida.  Tickets are $5.00 each at the door.  Discount available to large groups, arranged in advance.  Parking is free.
