NEVER  RESIST  PAINTING  A  RAINBOW

Workshop with Beverley McInnes

Saturday, April 7, 2001   9-4, Garden Club

$35 members, $45 non-members, materials fee $15

A One Day Workshop for those PASSIONATELY addicted to Fiber.  Do you remember the wonderful slide show last April's program presented by Beverley McInnes?  Because of the great response from the guild, she has agreed to return with a workshop on how to use some exciting found objects and embellishments.  This one day workshop will introduce the participants to Iron On Transfer Painting using a variety of fabrics. Favorite landscapes and gardens or any "look" the student wishes to capture will be translated onto fabric for later use in any piece of work. This fast and easy technique will be thoroughly explored during our time together.

Embellishing, adding texture, dyeing and applying transparent overlays, nettings, laces, ribbons and silhouetted shapes are a few of the techniques included in the workshop.  New and different materials which include sea (fish) leathers, punchinello, familiar household items, metal screening and a myriad of found objects add texture and interest as the many possibilities of each participant's work become apparent.

MUSEUM EXHIBIT

Spirit of the Cloth: Contemporary Quilts by African American Artists

February 15- May 13, 2001

The exhibition includes 51 quilts created using a wide variety of materials and techniques. Every quilt was chosen to reflect the rich diversity of approaches to the quilt format among African American artists today. Each quilt conveys the individuality of its maker; as a whole, the exhibition is a testament to the hundreds of African American artists active today in all regions of America. These intriguing works provide a forum for sharing the stories, memories and visions of the artist. The exhibition is organized by the American Craft Museum, New York, in collaboration with the Women of Color Quilter's Network and with co-curator Dr. Carolyn Mazloomi.
