Florida Quilt Network - Newsletter #66

September 11, 2003

Quilting Friends,

We have an amazing amount of information to share with you in this newsletter.  Florida is a happening state!

Now that I’m show chair for my guild’s show in January, I can really appreciate this newsletter in getting the word out.  Please continue to send me your activities: workshops, shows, exhibits, retreats, lectures, etc.  It’s all good.

For those of you in the Central Florida area, January looks to be an exciting month.  Martha Pullen returns the 7th through 10th for a Quilt Symposium.  Check out http://www.marthapullen.com/market/mmkts.html for more info.

And of course, you won’t want to miss the show of the season, Quilt Magic 2004, on the 23rd and 24th of January in Orlando.  Check out www.CFQG.com for more info.  Click on Quilt Magic.  I have just put on the CFQG website a picture of the most beautiful Donation Quilt I have every seen.  It is even more stunning in person, but you’ll get a good idea of how spectacular it is from the website photo.  You have the opportunity to win it!  Look for ticket sales at area shops and of course at our show in January.

SYLVIA EINSTEIN CLASS IN JACKSONVILLE

Also, Honeybees is bringing Sylvia Einstein to Jax this October (11-13 the Columbus day weekend) Saturday thru Monday, 9:00 4:00. to teach Letters to the World .  It’s an introspective class, not a pattern class.  Day 3 (the Monday holiday) is optional; it’s more work time than teach time.  We’d like to open up this class to the public now.  The cost will be $125 for the weekend class. It will be held at the Holiday Inn (same hotel as we hold the Retreat).    The room will be open for sewing all night Saturday & Sunday.  The cost is only for the class.  Hotel accommodations & meals are on your own.    Anyone interested can contact me at this email gwrigley@comcast.net or call me at 904-292-4499.

Sylvia’s website is http://sheinstein.addr.com/.

Workshop Description: We will take an idea or a feeling and transform it into a quilt. The ideas can range from protest about the environment, crime, war etc. to feelings about homesickness, love, hope, marriage etc.  I will act as a facilitator. I will bring examples and lots of ideas. We will do some exercises on paper. We will start to design a quilt and discuss these designs. This is a group process. We will not criticize but share our reactions and ideas.

DIANNE HIRE WORKSHOP IN JACKSONVILLE

We’ll be bringing Dianne Hire back next May (Memorial Day weekend) it will be open to the public once we have the guild members sign up.

The Honeybee Retreat website should be up & running by the end of the month.  This will include the February retreat as well as the new Quilting on the Edge art quilters retreat.
