Florida Quilt Network - Newsletter #71

Quilting Friends,

What a great season of quilt shows to attend!  I wish for you that you find the time to attend two or three between now and April.

The other day the refrigerator broke down (again!) and my husband decided he wanted to try his hand at fixing it.  He found a great website for this: www.RepairClinic.com.  They have a “Part Detective” and a “Repair Guru” that really make it easy to figure out which part will fix the problem and how to replace the part.  The web is truly amazing for this kind of thing.  Give it a try.

Also, I’d like to tell you about Pat Tribbey’s Florida Quilting website, if you haven’t already found it.  She lists quilting activities in Florida, but also has a great listing of Florida Quilt Guilds and Florida Quilt Shops.  Take a look and help Pat keep it updated with YOUR guild and YOUR favorite quilt shop: http://members.aol.com/anotherpat/flquilts.html

SHARING A TEACHER

Peace River Quilter in Punta Gorda have booked Jeana Kimball for a workshop and lecture here for October 21 and 22, 2004.  Jeana would like to teach for a second guild either before or after our dates.  She requested there be no more than one free day between the bookings. It would be best for her to have bookings back to back.

Would you please put this notice in your newsletter with my e-mail: Klusc1@comcast.net. You can include my name and phone for contact also.

Brenda Klus, 941-743-4022.

E-mails need to have a subject line - RE Jeana Kimball  - as I don't open unknown sources of mail.

Thank you - we appreciate your network.  We are able to enjoy so many more

teachers by piggy-backing with other groups.

EXHIBIT & WORKSHOPS IN MYRTLE BEACH, SC

The Burroughs/Chapin Art Museum in Myrtle Beach, SC is currently exhibiting Dottie Moore’s  quilts along with the quilts of Marlene O'Bryant Seabrook and the painted gourds of Tejouila Turner, another woman artist.  This exhibit was inspired by a project that I have been working on since 1996 called "Piecing a Quilt of Life."  It is a project that celebrates the creativity of women in both life and art.

The Burroughs/Chapin Museum is offering two workshops.  One entitled "Women's Stories: Women's Creativity which will be for all women.  The other is a mini-retreat for quilters.  It will be Friday evening and all day Saturday.

Please visit the project's website at:  www.creativetraces.com for a better understanding of the project's intent.

This mini-retreat is designed to deepen and refine your personal quilting style, inspire new directions for your quilt art and/or release your creative blocks.

The mini-retreat will begin on Friday, February 27th, 4-6 pm with a tour of Inspired by Nature: The Art Quilts of Dottie Moore, followed by a reception. Saturday's quilt workshop with Dottie will begin at 10:00 am and will end at 4:00 pm. The mini-retreat fee is $50.00 per person, which includes the Friday night reception and beverages.
