Florida Quilt Network - Newsletter #87

www.FloridaQuiltNetwork.com

June 3, 2005

Quilting Friends,

OK, this might not be the most exciting quilting news you’ve ever read, but consider this a friendly helpful hint:  As of June 1st, Floridians are allowed to view their credit report for FREE once a year.  Go to www.annualcreditreport.com to get started.  I just finished going through my credit reports and things look pretty accurate, tho I did find a couple of old credit cards I’d forgotten about.  The credit report provides address and avenues to resolve problems, so now is a good time to get ‘er done.  I’ve heard that even if you have no debts to worry about, your credit score (FICO) is used by insurance companies to come up with your premium costs.  Seems unfair, but there you are.

I’ve come up with an idea for a new section of this newsletter, let me know what you think.  Since I was a software designer in a previous life, I tend to collect tips on computer usage, be it email, internet, windows use, etc.  So I thought I’d pass on one tip each newsletter.  Here’s the first one:

COMPUTER TIP:

Passwords and other Important Info: Seems like every website now wants us to remember a password to use the site.  Keep the passwords in one place: create a password collection file on your computer, you can use MS Word or other word processing software.  There is a way to password protect the file, check Help (F1) for that.  Also, don’t call the file “passwords.doc”, that’s just asking for trouble, call it your pet’s name or something easy like that.  Our password file has four columns: Website Name, User id, Password, and Comments.  I also use this file to put my CC numbers, so I can cut and paste when I’m online ordering.  Our file is now 8 pages long and no sign of stopping.

I’ll be camping in New England for almost 4 weeks, so you won’t be hearing from me till August.  Have a great summer and stay cool.

As always, if your email address changes, please let me know: subscribe@FloridaQuiltNetwork.com.  Thanks

>>>  Question: Are there any guilds out there that own their own building - either purchased outright, donated, or county deeded for non-profit use? If so, would you please contact Robby Wargny, West Pasco Quilters' Guild, Inc. at crwargny@aol.com or 727 372-8219.  <<<
