Florida Quilt Network -
Newsletter #9
August 9, 1999
Hello quilters!
Again, its been a while since you’ve seen a newsletter from FQN, but news has been slow, and this editor has been keeping busy with work on the Orlando meeting of the state quilt guild, Sunshine State Quilters Association. I was able to meet many of you that day, and it was great to attach a face to your email address. SSQA is a wonderful organization that is working on various projects, including a future quilt museum. For more information about SSQA, keep your eye out for ads in quilt show programs, as well as in this space.
As a mother of two small children, I don’t get much quality time in my sewing room, so when I do, I try to multi-task by listening to my books on tape. If you are interested in renting some great unabridged books on tape, I order mine through the web from Books-On-Tape. They have a huge selection, and are a good company to work with. I have no affiliation with them, except as a satisfied customer, but if you decide you want to try them, I get a free rental with your first order. ;)
To make sure I get credit, click on the following link:

Barbie Swanson ediebarb@bellsouth.net of Broward Quilt Guild says:
Update on Florida Applique Society: 40 of us from Hollywood over to Weston and all through to Vero Beach met on June 27, 1999 in Delray Beach for a wonderful & sharing experience! For those who had to miss it, we hope you'll be able to join us next time.
After a day of socializing, sharing & learning, a business meeting was held to discuss our structure and how we wanted to proceed with the chapter growth. The enthusiasm for a group of this kind was indicated by the fact that it was unanimous that we meet monthly at Quilters Marketplace. Anything less was unacceptable. We have so many gifted people in the group that all were able to share tried and tested techniques along with many new and exciting tips.
We decided that for now we would continue to learn from one another and to develop slowly. Rather than having an immediate election of officers, it was voted that 1-3 people would volunteer each month to chair the meeting and present the project of the month. The schedule for the next three months is:
July 25 Pat Augustus, Marilyn Ettinger & Katie Mulchay : Celtic work (kit to purchase)
August 22 Yvonne Suutari & _________ : Hawaiian applique with Amish colors
September 26 JoAnn DeSantis & Elaine Power: 3-D Flowers (Bring fabrics appropriate for flowers and leaves with a background piece approximately fat quarter size.)
For all workshops, bring your personal applique sewing kit which includes needles, pins, scissors, threads, pencils, glue stick, freezer paper, Templar, ruler, etc., etc., etc.-- and all those other things you like to work with. If you choose to use a machine, bring it along.
Our Meetings are held at Quilters Marketplace 524 East Atlantic Ave. Delray Beach, FL 33483
4th Sunday of each month (except December) 1-4PM
