Florida Quilt Network - Newsletter #134 Sept 3, 2009
Quilting Friends,
Amazing what a month away will do for a soul! We camped our way up to Quebec last month, landing on the family farm for a reunion and wedding. We found cool weather right about northern Virginia, and boy, was it sweet. I was able to hit 5 (or was it 6?) quilt shops, and one quilt show in Hershey PA. If you’re ever on the Blue Ridge Parkway, take the time to head over to Wytheville, VA to visit Sew What Batiks. And on the way, stop at Fancy Gap Pottery & Fabric Outlet. Sew What Batiks has the largest selection of batik fabric I’ve ever seen (you’ve been in their booth if you’ve been to the Jacksonville QuiltFest), and Fancy Gap had a lot of factory ends and great deals on fabric, yarn, notions, thread, etc. My family was very patient with me, as long as I left them with my stash of chocolate. Now I’m working through all the bundles and bags, trying to prioritize all the new projects I’ve come home with. What fun! We also decided that this was our last trip with our beloved pop-up trailer. The teenagers are getting bigger, and we need the space in the garage. If you know anyone who is looking for a fun way to travel, point them toward my Camper page.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CRAFT SHOW IN WESLEY CHAPEL
The Wesley Chapel Chamber of Commerce is having a Craft Show !! October 17 & 18, 2009 in the Grove at Wesley Chapel, located at I75 and SR 54.
The Chamber had been host to very successful Fine Arts Shows. The latest was held in April 2009 and it drew approximately 50,000 people over the weekend. It was a wildly successful Fine Arts Show.
We had so many Craft Artists approach us during the Art Show asking if we were going to host a craft show, that we decided to do just that.
The Grove is a beautiful place with lots of room for the show. We will have plenty of advertising for the show's success. We encourage you to join us this year and get to know the Wesley Chapel area.
Please check us out at www.wesleychapelcraftshow.com
Our application is downloadable from the website. Please call if you have any questions.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gathering Threads at Gateway Center DEBARY, FLORIDA, Aug. 18, 2009 - For centuries people have admired what has been termed as “fiber arts”. Before there was oil or acrylic paints, artisans of all cultures wove fiber to create works of art. One of the oldest expressions of art, colorful plant fibers and animal hair was manipulated into cloth or stiff cloth vessels. Even before the invention of the spinning wheel, sheep's wool was used to create yarn. Dyes added to the beauty of the yarn, and weavers wove the yarn into intricate tapestries. With colorful cloth, quilters added depth to ordinary bed coverings. Their works told stories, and were preserved as wonderful family heirlooms. Each kind of cloth art, whether the artist used plants, yarn, or cloth, has added to the rich history of the art world. On Saturday, October 10, 2009, the Gateway Center for the Arts will join in the celebration of fiber art and the artists who use that medium with an open forum for fiber artists. Starting at 10 a.m. artists who quilt both traditionally and non-traditionally, who weave, knit, knot, twist, or manipulate fibers in any form, are welcome to attend Gathering Threads. The program will be a day of show and tell, a catered lunch, and lively discussions about the groups artists are part of, plus what these unique artists need in the world of fiber in Central Florida. The Gateway Center for the Arts is located at 880 N. U.S. Highway 17-92, DeBary. There is a $10 fee to attend, which includes lunch. Please phone (386) 668- 5553 by Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009 to reserve your seat, or by e-mail to Sandra Wilson at swilson.gca@cfl.rr.com. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TWO SHOP HOPS IN LEESBURG!
