Florida Quilt Network - Newsletter #161 February 6, 2012
Quilting Friends,
In these days of challenging economic times, we are all looking for ‘something for nothing’, am I right? I’d like to suggest that this newsletter is definitely Something for Nothing. Every month, you receive a FREE listing of all upcoming quilting events in Florida. No ads, no fees, no spam, no email list sales, just quilter-to-quilter information.
It seems to me that sometimes when we don’t pay for something, we don’t value it. So, I’m not asking for you to pay me, LOL, I’m just asking that you read the information and take advantage of some of the opportunities that are out there for us. Just because the information is free, doesn’t mean it isn’t worthwhile, right? If you like what you receive, pass it on to other quilters. Let’s share the love.
Also, if you belong to a Quilt Guild, I would ask you to take this opportunity to check your guild’s information on my website and let me know if I need to update contact info, meeting place info, or any other changes. I was trying to contact Central Florida quilt guilds recently and several emails were no longer in use.
To get a complete, organized, hotlinked listing of all the upcoming shows, retreats, workshops, shop hops, exhibits, etc, please visit the Calendar.
Happy Quilting, Mary-Jeanine -----------------------------------------------------------------

From Teddy Pruett: Happy New Year to my quilting friends! Did you know you don't have to wait two years between quilt shows to have your quilts appraised? Appraisals can be done during guild meetings or at someone's home. Get your friends together – I require a guarantee of at least $500 per day, very easily done with eight or ten written appraisals at $40 each and/or a few oral evaluations at $20 each. I'll be glad to throw my appraisal bags in the car and hit the highway. Just e-mail aprayzer@hotmail.com and we will work out the details. I want to thank the many guilds who have allowed me the opportunity to share my lecture “Other People's Fleas” across the years – some more than once! I'd like to remind program chairs that there are more pretty great lectures for your enjoyment and education. For instance, don't you want to know how appraisers determine the value of YOUR quilt? How is valuing an antique quilt different from valuing a newly made quilt? You might be surprised at the answer! “Gilda Guildmember Goes to Appraisal School” is the program for you. How about a little U.S. History? Is there a difference between quilts made by Northern ladies and their Southern sisters? You bet your grits there is! See the difference “in the cloth” with the lecture “Way Down Yonder.” Visit www.teddypruett.com and click “Lectures” in the left column for details. I hope to hear from you – and thanks! Teddy Pruett

DETECTIVES NEEDED!!
A nationally
respected quilt authority is curating an exhibit
of famous quilts made by men. He is seeking the whereabouts of the
"Challenger Space Shuttle Quilt" made by Robert L. Hamilton of Titusville, FL
in 1987. The quilt is featured on Page 219 of the "Florida
Quilts" book. Anyone who may have information about the quilt is requested to
contact Teddy Pruett at
aprayzer@hotmail.com.
Any information at all will be greatly appreciated. Time is of the essence.
