Florida Quilt Network - Newsletter #178 July 8, 2013
Quilting Friends,
Do you belong to a guild? If so, could you do me a big favor and click on over to the Guild Page of my website to see if your information is correct and current? Please make sure the name, email, phone, website is all there…you want to hear all the latest from the various guilds, shows and shops that use this page to communicate with Florida Quilt Guilds. For changes, send me an email please.
Speaking of the website, we had over 90,000 hits in June! What does that mean for you? It means that you’ll want ALL your info to be up-to-date. Check your guild, check your favorite quilt shop, you favorite LongArm quilter…lets update that info, people. You want to be found!
I returned Saturday afternoon from a 17 day road trip. Yep, 3061 miles in a bright red Prius with Hubs & #1 daughter (say that with a Chinese accent). We spent a week in the Smokies with my parents, my sibs and their families. Not the usual huge crowd; I guess the grands are growing up and getting their own lives. But it was nice in a smaller more intimate way. Then another day’s drive up to Ann Arbor to visit SIL and her family. I had no idea Ann Arbor was such a beautiful, progressive, happening town with lots of trees and parks. We had a great visit. So there you go, that’s what I did for my summer vacation. And my sewing machines took their vacation at the repair shop…they are home now and boy are they humming! I was able to finish this zig-zag quilt in time to give it to little Nova in person. She is our first great-grand niece. I think she was trying to pull the polka-dots off the fabric.
Looking for a new sewing machine? I have 3 machines for sale: · Bernina 360 with all hoops and case for carrying never used
· Viking 6 thread serger new
· Viking Diamond sewing/embroidery machine all hoops and case for carrying. New, never used, no downloads on machine, books and programs included
If interested please call or send an email to themaksems@msn.com to talk about the machines and prices.
Thanks, Mary Kay Maksem

CHARITY QUILTING DAYS
QAKH Community Quilt-ins are Saturdays July 20 and August 17.
Quilters as well as volunteers who will iron, sandwich quilts, trim fabrics, etc are welcome to join us at the Scotty Culp Auditorium on 565 Cassia Blvd. in Satellite Beach.
Quilters gather to make quilts for homeless children. This year’s focus is on children entering kindergarten in the Brevard schools. Our purpose is to give these sweet kids both comfort and hope.
Quilts are 60” x 42” for use on car seats and sofas. QAKH (pronounced quack) stands for Quilters Against Kids Hunger and Homelessness. The auditorium is accessible by traveling Pineada Causeway, exiting on South Patrick Drive and going about a mile to Cassia. The auditorium is one block East of South Patrick.
Quilters can bring their machines, walking feet if they have them, and their lunch. QAKH provides all the quilt supplies. Come when you can and stay as long as you wish and enjoy the camaraderie of this community affair.
These quilt-ins are made possible because of the support given by Bette George, Florida Today/Gannett Foundation, The Margaret Heins Foundation, The Margaret Binz Foundation, Publix Super Markets, Home Depot and the city of Satellite Beach. Questions? Contact Sheryl Milner at milnerob@yahoo.com or Margie Engel at margie@cfl.rr.com.
