Florida Quilt Network -
Newsletter #18
December 28, 1999
Hello quilters:
I guess this is the last FQN newsletter of the M… (should I say the word?, Naaaaa) YEAR. This has been FQN’s first year; in fact FQN was officially created on Jan 3rd, 1999. I guess that allows me to reminisce a little bit, or at least think about where we’ve come with it. Thanks to all of you, FQN has been well received and an idea whose time has come. I’d like to think FQN helped a few guilds get together and share national teachers, send a few more visitors to your quilt shows, fill a few workshop seats, enlarge SSQA’s membership, and in general, communicate in ways not accomplished before. We were even able to help QuiltFest 1999 get the timely word out that yes, the hurricane came through but the “show would go on!”.
I would be remiss if I did not thank you for your kind words of encouragement throughout the year. Although this newsletter is a bit of work, I really enjoy putting it together not-so-periodically. Its great to be a part of the Florida Quilting World!
Here’s a very cool site about how to do fabric origami: <http://www.owt.com/gdscott/>
And if you want to be a Kaleidoscope Painter: http://www.ben2.ucla.edu/%7Epermadi/java/spaint/spaint.html
Does anyone know anyone in the St. Lucie Crazy Quilters Guild or Manatee Patchworker Quilt Guild? If so, please ask them to send me an email at mji@cfl.rr.com. Thanks

Cathy Washburn CWash3266@aol.com of Country Road Quilters says:
We are very privileged to announce Marti Michell, author of the book “Quilting for People Who Still Don’t Have Time To Quilt”, will present a lecture on Thursday, January 20, 2000 at 7:00pm. This event will be sponsored by Country Road Quilters of Ocala, Florida. It will be held at the Hospice Building of Ocala, 3231 34th Avenue, just off of State Road 200. Cost for the lecture will be $5.00 per person payable at the door.
We would like to invite you to attend this lecture. Marti has been teaching rotary cutting techniques since 1980 and has become one of the most well known teachers of that technique. In 1995, Marti surprised the quilt world by introducing a line of acrylic templates for rotary cutting. Her lecture “Life Beyond Strip Piecing or I Lead Two Lives” will tell you why. Whether you already own some of her Perfect Patchwork Templates, have thought about buying some or are sure you never want any templates, you will find her lecture-demo inspiring and fun. This talk is liberally illustrated with “live” quilts.
We will only be able to seat 180 people so please call and give us an estimate of how many people from your guild will be attending. Contact Cathy Washburn at CWash3266@aol.com before January 13, 2000.
This is an exciting opportunity and we hope you will be able
to join us!

Willabee Studio (Venice) Grannie Suzannie (Daytona)
We have a queen sized, hand quilted opportunity quilt (raffle quilt); a silent auction, and our wonderful gift shop loaded with items made by our members. Door prizes, of course- and light refreshments.
Guest speakers are: Connie Moore Mincer (11:00 a.m. Friday & Saturday)
Stephanie Kimura - trunk showing of her original wearables -
2:-00 p.m. Saturday
We are really excited about this show. It is our very first judged show. We have given the members the opportunity to enter pieces on a judged, or non-judged basis. Also, we are in a new location. The Eau Gallie Civic Center is new, clean, bright, and best of all -- smoke free. It is also larger than our previous location which has enabled us to add a few more vendors. It is right next door to the Art Museum and we will be using their Harris room for the speakers. We have a great deal of talent in our group and are anticipating some wonderful quilts. Come see us!
