Florida Quilt Network -
Newsletter #23
March 9, 2000
Fellow Quilters,
One of my favorite quilting sites that I return to time
after time is www.quilting.about.com
Susan Druding does a remarkable job compiling information, as well as
writing her own articles on all types of quilting information. She also emails a free newsletter which you
can subscribe to on her site. In her
latest newsletter, I found this information that I'd like to share with you:
Mystery Quilt #3 - Easy & Fast Fat Quarter Mystery
<http://quilting.about.com/library/weekly/aa000220.htm>
This new mystery is a fast and easy one which will be done
in only 3 parts. This first section is on choosing your fabrics and quantity to
buy. The Cutting Instructions will go up in a few days. It's in 2 sizes:
84x84" queen or a smaller 38" x 38" wall quilt size. Hope you
like it!

CLASSES with Hollis Chatelain
The following is information about classes being given by Hollis Chatelain. I recommend her
highly - she is an excellent teacher and artist and a loving person willing to
share her knowledge and energy. She has
two classes coming up that may be of interest.
Thanks, Bonnie
The first retreat takes place May 27th - 31st. It is a 5 day
retreat on Drawing. You do not need any experience to take the class. It is
very laid back and fun. Most people I teach have never drawn before and they
really do have a good time. The second retreat takes place June 2nd-6th and it
is called Dye-Painting your Images/Bringing them to Life with Quilting. It is a
class about learning to control dyes and then quilting what you have painted to
bring special effects to your work.
Both classes will be held in Chapel Hill, NC at a conference
center called Aquaduct Center. It is on 23 acres of fields and woods with a
40-mile panorama of the eastern horizon, very conducive to creativity. All the
meals will be served at the center buffet style. The rooms are double occupancy
rooms (although single occupancy is available), each with their own bath and
balcony overlooking the woods. We will have 6 hours of classes for 4 days and
will take 1/2 day to visit my
studio and Bradiggins Arts and Crafts Gallery. After class,
students are welcome to wander the paths in the woods or play volleyball,
badminton, or croquet on the lawn (or just hang out on the beautiful terrace).
We will have informal discussions in the evenings and there is a freezer full
of ice cream for late night raids. The cost for the class, 5 nights, 5
breakfasts, 5 lunches, 5 dinners and the use of the facilities with double room
occupancy is $870.00.
If anyone wants more information they can call me at 919 732
5119 or look at my website (where you can see photos of Aquaduct) and get more
details.
If you need anything else, please let me know.
Thanks so much.
Hollis

original designs. Her subject will be
"Cutting Loose How I Got Here." Ms. McCoy will give a

9:30 a.m. 3:30 p.m. on
