(click to enlarge) This was a fun quilt to make. I call it ‘Improv Trees’, and its made with thrifted cotton shirts. Someone asked me recently why I make quilts from shirts. Well, I guess part of it is the thrill of the hunt (to find just the right plaid or shade of green), and part of it is the feeling of thriftiness and a harken back to a simpler time. And finally, tho I usually like high contrast-y quilts, my shirt quilts seem to be softer and a little quieter. Sometimes that’s nice too. The tutorial for the trees can be found here.

Mid-Pinellas Quilt Show features over 200 quilts from three local guilds, Hidden Stitches, Largo Cracker Quilters and Procrastinating Quilters. Plus, vendors, demonstrations, handmade items for purchase and quilt appraisals.
Show opens on Friday February 15, 2019 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Saturday February 16,2019 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Fee is $7.00.

QUILT SHOW IN PUNTA GORDA
The 15th Peace River Quilt Fest will be held on February 22, and 23, 2019 at the Charlotte Harbor Convention Center, 75 Taylor Street, Punta Gorda .
Hours are 9-5 on Friday and 9-4 on Saturday. There's a free shuttle on the Nickel Ride from the Harold Court parking garage at the corner of Olympia Ave and Rt. 41.
Donation: $8-1-day/$15 -2 days. Vendors, Boutique, auction, appraiser and scissor sharpening available.

NATIONAL QUILTING DAY IN VENICE
The Venice Area Quilters’ Guild will be having National Quilting Day on Sunday, March 30 from 12-3 at the Venice Community Center, 326 S. Nokomis, Venice, FL 34285. This is a free event for the community featuring all aspects of quilting- what a quilt is, how quilting has evolved, demos on hand and machine quilting, art quilts, modern quilts, traditional quilts, and make it/take it activities for kids and adults will be available.
