Florida
Quilt Network - Newsletter #281
May 9, 2022
Quilting
Friends,
Whew,
another busy month. I’m having fun
planning food stations for a church picnic these last few weeks, so my personal
newsletter deadline kinda came and went. Oops!
I write this between emails to volunteers, food vendors and the
like. Its all good, its gonna be a great event!
I
finished this very fun 3D quilt recently, fresh out of the “Stunning
3D Quilts” book by Ruth Ann Berry. Its a lot easier than it looks, its sewn in columns and
then the columns are sewn together. If
you want to see me demo it, watch me here.
If you are wanting to donate a quilt or two to Ukrainian
refuges, skip to the bottom of this newsletter. The need is so great for Ukraine, and we
believe the people of the region will need donations for some time.
You may not know that the Calendar page on the website is a quick way to view upcoming events all over the state. Give it a look-see.
Happy Quilting,
Mary-Jeanine
PS: I’d love to hear from you,
so drop me a line sometime.

FREE QUILT TRUNK SHOW
The next Racing Fingers
Quilt Guild [RFQG] meeting will feature a “Trunk Show” presented by Alissa Lapinsky, owner of Oceans of Thread, Deland, Florida, on
the second Monday, May 9, at 6:30PM at the Seabreeze United Church of
Christ, 501 N Wild Ave, Daytona Beach. Admission is free and open to the
public. [Please park behind the church and
enter via the kitchen door.]
A lifelong artist,
Alissa started quilting almost eight years ago after she saw an Instagram post
for Quiltcon, the National Modern Quilt Guild's National
show. She searched for a local guild, found Orlando MQG, and from her first
guild meeting, she was hooked. She saw a room full of people from all back-grounds, all ages, and all styles, all loving the same
thing: cutting up fabric and sewing it back together.
RFQG Sit ‘n Sew is the third Tuesday, May 16,
10am-4pm at the same church as the meeting; bring your sewing machine.
Mother Hen quilting help is available at the Ormond Beach
Library on the second Thursday, May
12, 9:30am-noon. Fidget quilts for patients with Alzheimer’s,
dementia and brain injuries can also be made at Mother Hen. Supplies for
making fidget quilts will be provided by RFQG.
See racingfingersquiltguild.com for more details.

Ocala, FL
The SW 200 Corridor Quilt Guild is a fairly new guild
created for enthusiastic quilters of all level. Our
monthly meetings allow us whole days dedicated to sewing, sharing
and teaching. We meet twice a month--the second and fourth Friday of each
month--from 10 AM to 3 PM at the Marion County Sheriff's Office meeting room.
The address is 9048 SW SR 200, Ocala, FL. You may attend as a guest two times
before joining. Annual dues are $20.
Our mission statement is: "To enhance the growth and
knowledge of the “art of quilting” through the inspiration, creativity, and
friendship of its members by sharing quilting techniques and patterns through
active participation in teaching/learning with one another."
Members share their knowledge and expertise by performing
short demos, show & tell, and various activities such BOM (Christmas
blocks; Beginner blocks), challenge quilts, etc. More formal classes as
well as charitable projects (e.g. making quilts for
kids) will be held on a quarterly basis. The business meeting is
conducted on the second Friday followed by short demos; the fourth Friday is a
“Sew Day” dedicated to working on your own or group projects.

QUILTS
FOR UKRAINE
Terry
Burtchell, QOVF FL State Coordinator is partnering with World Vision to get
quilts to the Ukrainian Refugees. There is a great need for warm quilts for
children & women. World Vision works with 5 Organizations to help in
crisis, including Convoy of Hope and Samaritan’s Purse. Convoy of Hope will
make a pick up stop here in Port Orange and transfer
to NC where Samaritan’s Purse is making flights into World Vision base in
Romania.
There
is no money involved with shipping just wonderful non-profit organizations
willing to help the people of Ukraine. The need is warm quilts.
