Florida
Quilt Network - Newsletter #282
June 1, 2022
Quilting
Friends,
If you are wanting to donate a quilt or two to Ukrainian
refuges, skip to the bottom of this newsletter. The need is so great for Ukraine, and we
believe the people of the region will need donations for some time.
There is still time to enter your quilt in Jacksonville Quilt
Show presented by QuiltFest. [Editor’s note: this is one of the few big guild shows in Florida that you do NOT have to be a guild
member to enter a quilt.] The entry deadline is July 25, 2022
and delivery of quilts to the show will be in September. More iInformation is online at www.quiltfestjax.com
. If not entering a quilt, just set your calendar to visit the showcase
of over 400 quilts from September 15-17, 2022 at the
Prime Osborn Convention Center in Jacksonville, FL.
You may not know that the Calendar page on the website is a quick way to view upcoming events all over the state. Give it a look-see.
Happy Quilting,
Mary-Jeanine
PS: I’d love to hear from you,
so drop me a line sometime.

QUILT EXHIBIT IN ORMOND BEACH
Stitched, Stamped, and
Sculpted: A Collection of Florida Fiber Art
June 10 - August 14, 2022
Opening Reception Friday,
June 10th , 6 PM
Ormond Memorial Art Museum
& Gardens
Invited Artists: Bobbi Baugh,
Normajean Brevik, Audrey Butler,
Liz Canali, Maggie
Dillon, Dirty Dozen Fiber
Artists, Regina Dunn, Ellen Lindner, Cathy Parker, Teddy
Pruett, Sandra Shenker
The Dirty Dozen Fiber Artists
will have their group challenge, Measure of a Woman, on display. They state:
During
the 2020 pandemic, we challenged ourselves to do a rather unique version of
self-portraits. The requirements were that each quilt would be the height of
its maker, with a width between 4 and 12 inches. When done well a self-portrait
is so much more than a visual image. It also tells you something about the
subject. Perhaps her history, her upbringing, obstacles she has faced, or even
her personal traits. Look closely: these pieces will give you a little insight
into the diverse artists who made them.

QUILTS
FOR UKRAINE
Terry
Burtchell, QOVF FL State Coordinator is partnering with World Vision to get
quilts to the Ukrainian Refugees. There is a great need for warm quilts for children
& women. World Vision works with 5 Organizations to help in crisis,
including Convoy of Hope and Samaritan’s Purse. Convoy of Hope will make a pick up stop here in Port Orange and transfer to NC where
Samaritan’s Purse is making flights into World Vision base in Romania.
There
is no money involved with shipping just wonderful non-profit organizations
willing to help the people of Ukraine. The need is warm quilts.
