Quilting
Friends,
Today I’m going to do a very mini tour of the FQN website, some
pages that you may not know about:
·
John Flynn Diagonal Backing Calculator: are you familiar with
this very EFFICIENT technique
for creating a quilt backing? If so, you
know the formula is a little scary. So we put a simple calculator
on the website to make it easier.
Bookmark it on your phone for your next trip to the store for backing
fabric. Be sure you have your quilt top
measurements with you.
·
Florida Teachers: if you are a Guild Program Chair, you may
want to peruse this list
of teachers who live in Florida and are willing to travel. Lower travel costs mean less $$ out of the
guild budget. If you are a quilt teacher
in Florida, send
me info to get onto this list!
·
Recipes: I love cooking for others, and am often asked
for the recipe. I decided to put all my
favorite recipes in one place, with separate pages for my favorite Gluten Free/Dairy Free, and also some of my favorite Instant Pot recipes.
·
And
of course a pretty complete list of Florida Guilds,
Florida Quilt
Shops and lots of LongArm quilters, sorted by county.
I’ve mentioned this before, but it bears
repeating: I’m keeping a database of
charity sewists and quilters who are looking for stash. If you or someone you know is de-stashing or
needs to empty grandma’s sewing room, please let me know and I might be able to
hook you up with someone in your area who will put the stash to good use. It’s a great feeling to know I’ve helped to
make over 20 connections like this!
You may not know that the Calendar page on the website is a quick way to view upcoming events all over the state. Give it a look-see.
Happy Quilting,
Mary-Jeanine
PS: I’d love to hear from you,
so drop me a line sometime.

QUILT SHOW IN JACKSONVILLE
QuiltfestJax announces its 2023 show dates and theme
The theme for the 35th annual
Jacksonville Quiltfest (QuiltfestJax)
is “Sew Full of Whimsy.” It will be held from September 14-16, 2023 at the Prime Osborn Convention Center from 9 am to
5 pm daily.
Since 1987, local quilters have
been showcasing their handmade creations, representing the current trends and
the creativity of the makers. A present day quilt show
represents an amazing array of techniques and the use of modern fabrics and
designs. From art quilts and modern quilts to traditional pieced and appliqued
quilts, there will be a variety of beautiful or thought
provoking quilts on display.
The all-volunteer event is
hosted by six local quilting guild members. Quilters are invited to submit
their applications for inclusion and to be judged starting in April. About 400
quilts are accepted for display each year, none of which have been shown at the
Jacksonville Quiltfest previously.
Save the date, September 14-16,
2023. Explore the website at quiltfestjax.com/.
Visit Facebook
@quiltfestjax
or Instagram @jaxquiltfest
to see the quilts from the 2022 show and more.
