Quilting Friends,
Hope your holiday season is filled with Joy, and your
stitching is Stress-free! I’ve managed
to NOT volunteer myself to organize some large Christmas season function this year,
so I am enjoying a couple of quiet moments here and there.
As you might notice in the Symposium Update below, I am
heading up the Raucous Auction to be held the Friday night of the Symposium
(March 16th). Since this is
my first Auction, make my job easy and send me some great stuff to auction
off. I bet if you were to look in the
back of your quilting closet, you might just find a quilt/wallhanging, finished
or unfinished, that you would be glad to part with. And I would be so glad to take it off your hands! Make my day!!
Here are a few websites of interest:
Such a great website!
A good resource for all kinds of crafters, quilters, sewists, etc.:

SYMPOSIUM UPDATE
Registrations for SSQA's March 15-18, 2001 symposium,
Traditions and Innovations, are coming fast and furious. Remember that class
space is limited. Teachers are Karen Combs, Susanne McCoy, Jo Morton, Cindy
Blackberg, Ellen Gordon and Jan Wildman. Classes are a variety of hand or
machine, traditional or contemporary, project or technique. Remember also that
you are responsible for making your own room reservations at the Holiday Inn of
Altamonte Springs (407) 862-4455 by February 15 to get the SSQA rate (mention
us!) of $75.90/night (includes tax). For information and a registration form,
go to www.ssqa.org. Non-members of SSQA may register
after January 17. The registration deadline is February 15.
For a registration package, send an LSASE with two first class stamps to Andi
Reynolds, 1117 Albritton Drive, Tallahassee, FL 32301-3265.
Reminder! We will have a Raucous Auction to raise money for
the next symposium. Please be generous! Mary-Jeanine Ibarguen is keeping a
tally of what is being donated - mji@cfl.rr.com - so please let her know ASAP.
And bring money so we can get some great bids!

THE INTERNET WORKS
Many thanks to all who responded to my request for quilts
for the musical "Quilters." Thanks to the wonders of the internet, I
located a guild in California who had loaned their quilts to someone in
Vermont. Vermont was through with them so (with California's blessings) they
sent them on to me!

FLORIDA FESTIVAL UPDATE
Renowned Florida quilter and teacher Carol Henry has
volunteered to design and oversee the creation of the next SSQA raffle quilt.
It will be raffled at the next Florida Folk Festival, October 28-29 at the
Stepehen Foster Center at White Springs (near I-10 and I-75). The festival
theme is how the Space Coast has affected Florida's folkways. Carol has created
a lovely combination pieced and appliqued design. She will be asking for people
to piece four log cabin blocks to create the background for her applique. When
she asks for help, please volunteer!
Of course, this great quilt needs a booth in which to hang
during the festival, which means we need a booth coordinator (or a couple of pals
who would like to spend the weekend together in the beautiful autumn weather of
North Florida). Trust me on this - it is fun, but I will not be able to
Pick up the slack myself. We got off to a great start and
got good visibility and a few new members last year so please, let's don't drop
this ball! Call me for details of how you can help SSQA participate in next
year's Folk Festival. Andi Reynolds andir@gateway.net

QUILTERS WARM LOCAL
CHARITIES WITH THEIR DONATION
At their December 19th
meeting, the Gold Coast Quilter’s Guild members will donate about 200 quilts
and 80 "Pillow Pals" to representatives of local charities. Using
mostly donated fabric and batting, Guild members have been sewing all year to
make these crib quilts and lap quilts. The Pillow Pals are huggable-sized
pillows with a smiling face and arms and legs. This year s recipients will be
Aid to Victims of Domestic Assault (AVDA), First Care, Sheriff s Department,
DeHornle Alzeimer’s Pavilion, The Florence Fuller Child Development Center,
Guardian Ad Litem Program, and Children s Home Society.
The Gold Coast
Quilter’s Guild meets monthly on the third Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Boca
Raton Community Center located on Crawford Boulevard (behind City Hall).
Membership is open to anyone interested in quilting. Visitors are welcome. For
more information, call (561) 499-6277 or e-mail gavjs@worldnet.att.net.

A MESSAGE FROM TEDDY
PRUETT
I would like to let
the Florida quilters know that I have a new computer which is fantastic, but it
meant a change of servers and screen addresses, which is unfortunate. I have so many people whose addresses have gone
into outer space, that I would like to ask if I can use the network to let
everyone know that I am now aprayzer@hotmail.com.
Also, I have been off
the quilt guild circuit for a while now, and I miss it so much. I am in the process of re-writing all my
lectures and workshops, and will be adding some exciting new things, such as
"Oh, Lawdy, Miz Scahlett, The Yankees ah Comin!!!" a program about
the effects of the War Between the States on quilts. Also, a workshop on creating personal memorabilia quilts, dating
fabrics and quilts, and much more.
Tantalized yet? I hope so. E-mail for more information. The paperwork is not complete yet, but I
will be glad to put groups on a list to contact later, or we can go ahead and
schedule dates now to hold them, and the paperwork can follow. I am really looking forward to hearing from
some of my special friends in guilds across the state.
