Quilting
Friends,
I’m
baaack! 10,000 miles and 20 states
later, we feel like we’ve seen enough of our great country to keep us home for
a little while. We enjoyed some of the
big national parks (Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce, Redwoods, Yellowstone, Grand
Tetons, Mt. Rushmore) and some of the smaller state parks (Palo Duro State Park
in Texas was one of our favorites). We
camped in a Coleman pop-up, and the last night of setting up, I timed us: 9.5
minutes from parking to sitting at the dinette for dinner. Not too shabby. DH and I hope to have our trip pics up on our website soon, only
700 of them!
I
was able to hit 3 quilt exhibits. 2 quilt shows, and 3-4 shops. My favorite was, of course, the Sisters
Quilt Show in Sisters, OR. What a great
venue to display the quilts! Lots of
new ideas bouncing around in my brain for future quilts.
I’ve
discovered a website that is offering free listings for quilt shops, quilt
guilds, quilt service providers (quilting, appraisals, etc). It looks like a great service, if people
will actually send in their information.
I urge you to list your organization if you have one, and to use the
website the next time you’re looking for something quilt related: www.QuiltProfessionals.com
Along
the same lines is www.thequiltercommunity.com. Make sure your local guild, shops and events
are listed.

The
Pensacola Quilters' Guild would like to invite the public to our Biennial Quilt
Show to be held March 19 & 20 (Friday & Saturday), 2004 at the Wright
Place, 80 E. Wright Street, Pensacola, Florida. The theme of the show this year is "The Art of the
Quilt." The Opportunity Quilt for
this show will be a 76" by 95" queen size quilt. It is an original creation by our own
Kathryn Morrison and assembled and hand quilted by the members of our guild.
The quilt is of various shades of blue on a white background in an arrangement
from two tradition patterns. The prominent dark blue stars are from the
Fifty-four or Fight pattern; while the squares and triangles are in shades of
blue, tan and yellow in the Jacob's Ladder pattern.
A
fashion show will conclude the show on Saturday at 2 PM in the Wright Place
Auditorium. The cost for the show will
be $5.00 For questions about the quilt show or directions to the show please

GOOD
NEWS:
Seaside
Piecemakers' Outreach project for kids taught quilting to more than 170
children during the school year and produced some twenty plus quilts donated to
local charities for children. This
summer we had a summer camp for a dozen kids, ages 9-13, which was very
successful. All the pictures can be
viewed on my website (address below).
Next
year we will be in seven public schools, and for the first time as a partner
with Brevard County School System, which means we'll be pulling resources
together! The momentum is wonderful,
and the teachers are excited! The
volunteers are thrilled!

TOUR OF SOUTH AFRICA
Greetings
from sunny South Africa!
I
want to inform you of a very special Quilting Tour taking place to South Africa
in November 2003. I will furthermore explain how your Quilting Club can earn
some extra income, how your members can qualify for special discount, or how
someone from the club can join the tour for free.
The
Quilting Tour to South Africa will run from 24 November to 7 December 2003.
Highlights include visits to South African Quilter Guilds, local fabric
designers and producers, embroidery ladies from an underprivileged community
and a local clinic where ladies from a quilters group donated quilts for babies
born with AIDS. Experience the highlights of South Africa, including thrilling
game drives in open safari vehicles, interaction with our friendly and diverse
people and educating, scenic excursions! The tour promises to be an experience
of a life time and you will leave with much more than the average tourist. If
you would like to receive the detailed itinerary and costs, please let me know
and I shall e-mail it to you.
There
is a choice of three financial benefits to this tour:
Your
Quilting Club can use this tour as a means to earn some income, as we will pay
you 15% commission for every person that book on this tour at the full price,
OR
You
can pass the 15% commission on to your members as a discount, if they book and
pay a deposit before end of August 2003, OR
You
can send one person free of charge, for every 10 people paying the full price.
