Florida Quilt Network - Newsletter #78
September 16, 2004
Quilting Friends,
Wow. Its been quite a month since my last newsletter. Two major hurricanes in Central Florida and possibly another one on the way. One has to wonder if we’re at the beginning of a new phase of weather. I hope you have come through the last month unscathed and are quilting up a storm. I guess having at least one handwork project around is a good thing.
Please be patient with me as I continue to find a solution to my emailing problems. I won’t bore you with the details, but it is getting more complicated and more frustrating. If I charged money for this newsletter, my troubles would be over, but I won’t go there. So if you think you might be missing a newsletter, simply go to my website, www.FloridaQuiltNetwork.com and click on the Newsletter link on the left side of the page. I keep the website updated.

CALL TO ARTISTS
Twist +
Shout : A Contemporary Perspective of the Needle Arts Exhibition. Call to professional fiber/textile artists
creating contemporary works through the use of one of five traditional
needleart techniques: crocheting, canvas work (needlepoint), counted threads
(cross-stitch), knitting and/or embroidery. Not constrained by function, the
exhibition will focus on artists whose body of work steps outside tradition to
produce provocative, concept-driven art.
Exhibition opens at the Florida Craftsmen Gallery in St. Petersburg, FL
in January, 2006 and will travel to several institutions nationwide through
2007. Exhibition catalogue. Curated by Michele Tuegel, professional
artist and independent curator, and sponsored in part by The National
Needlearts Association (TNNA), a trade assn. representing the manufacturers and
distributors of tools and materials for all needle art forms. Deadline to receive materials: December
4, 2004. For consideration, packet
must include: 1) 5 to 10 representative slides of current artwork; 2) Artist resume, including all contact
information such as address, phone, and email; 3) Corresponding slide
information sheet listing: title of work, size, medium, year completed, retail
price (or NFS), and availability in 2006-07;
4) Artist statement and/or explanation of work; 5) SASE for return of materials. Slides should represent the artists
current body of work and will not necessarily be the actual works selected for
exhibition. No electronic files,
please. Details: www.floridacraftsmen.net
Mail packet to: Twist & Shout, c/o Karen Haraminac, Director
of Exhibitions, Florida Craftsmen, Inc., 501 Central Avenue, St. Petersburg, FL
