Quilting Friends,
As our big quilt show season
winds down, its time to get busy with a few of those new projects we picked up
along the way. Everywhere I look, in
every corner of my sewing room, in every cabinet and drawer, I find yet another
project started or compiled and waiting….what was I thinking?
Speaking of hours in the day
and the lack thereof, Florida quilters have lost a wonderful page of quilting
information. Pat Tribbey (anotherpat@aol.com) has decided to stop publishing
her great “Florida Quilts” webpage (She’s looking for a few extra hours in her
day). Pat compiled a great list of
Florida Quilt Shops and Florida Quilt Guilds for our use and enjoyment. Since Pat’s list was so complete, I never
felt the need to compile that information for my website, I just referred
questions to Pat’s webpage.
Pat has generously offered
to hand over her quilt guild and quilt shop lists to me, and they are now on MY
website: www.FloridaQuiltNetwork.com. This is a good time to check out your local
shops and guilds for accuracy and completeness. If you see any changes to be made, please drop me a line (fqn.shop@FloridaQuiltNetwork.com) so I can keep the lists up-to-date.
Thank you, Pat Tribbey, for
your hard work on this most necessary compilation of useful information. We’ll miss “Florida Quilts!” !!
As always, if your email
address changes, please drop me a line: subscribe@FloridaQuiltNetwork.com

All entries will be juried to ensure the quilts represent or illustrate subjects
of nature indigenous to Florida. The subject matter may be representational or
symbolic of Florida's natural flora, fauna and environment.
"The Quilting Natural Florida show blends the skills and imagination of
the quilt community with the mission of the Florida Museum of Natural

CALL FOR QUILT RELATED
STORIES
Dear Mary-Jeanine,
I'm a member of a quilt
discussion group and have been contacting folks who participate in it about
contributing to a book of quilting stories. I recently sold a book proposal to
St. Martin's Press for a collection of personal stories about quilts and
quilting called
Patchwork Prose.
I'm looking for stories that
really bring out the myriad aspects of the quilting universe from tales about
that first quilt that's still in the closet hoping to get finished some day to
a special friendship that developed through quilting to the way quilting can
keep you sane when all around you seems to be going crazy. Stories can be funny
or sad, inspirational or philosophical. Any and every aspect of quilting is
welcome.
I've been collecting stories
for a couple of months now and they range from a tale about a group of boys
from disadvantaged backgrounds who put together a quilt for children in
Bangladesh to a quilt shop owner who found several ounces of marijuana hidden
in the ceiling of the building she was renovating to a dedicated quilter on her
way to a fabric sale who helped prevent a vagrant's attack on a young mother
and her child.
There's lots more
information and some stories on my website: www.patchworkstories.com and I'd be
glad to answer any questions you may have. The deadline for stories is June 1,
2005 and the book will be published in the spring of 2007.
I surely hope you will
consider contributing to Patchwork Prose. And please pass this information
along to anyone and everyone you know who quilts.
Thank you for your time.

QUILT GUILD PROGRAM IDEA
MJ - here's a program idea
folks might want to check into:
In February, Seaside
Piecemakers in Satellite Beach had a delightful program given by musician Cathy
Miller and her husband John Bunge. Cathy is an experienced musician with
a lovely voice and is known as The Singing Quilter. John sings as
well! The program they presented Seaside included original songs which
Cathy, originally a folk singer, had written. She was a singer before she
was a quilter, but she even includes quilts in the program.
Both John and Cathy were
such a delight for us. We definitely needed a light-hearted enjoyable
program and enjoyed it so much that we immediately booked them again.
Their next jaunt to our part of the country will be in February 2007, and we
booked them for the fourth Wednesday, 28 February. They will be in Florida for
the whole month. If you would like to check into booking them for your
guild here's their info and website.
